From humble beginnings in a small town in rural Pennsylvania, Combat Support, The True Burden of Sacrifice, is the journey of an average man, living an average life. Raised with modest morals and values, the struggles of his youth turn him to the Army with a fresh start and new goals for which to strive. Living this regimented lifestyle within the confines of the U.S military consumes him and his understanding for what is truly important in this world becomes clear when the door to his future presents itself. The future includes living the Army values not for himself alone, but for his new wife and family. This new equation is constantly changing and his love for the Army slowly fades as he gives himself to the one woman who opened his eyes to the precious life they now live. He separates from the Army, but that separation from uniform is short lived when the attacks of September 11th 2001 occur. He finds himself struggling for the need to serve his nation again, this time as the nation takes combat to multiple battlefields. His eventual return to the military is as member of the Utah Army National Guard which eventually places him in the role for which he dreamed of serving, in a nation fraught with conflict, for his faith, family, and the freedom of those who cannot fight for themselves. The separation from his family weighs heavy in his heart and a journal kept during the deployment chronicles the accomplishments of his mission and love for his family. His supporting role in a combat zone soon turns his thoughts inward to define what truly burdens the families currently experiencing separation within this warring nation. It is not the sacrifice of the service member alone, but the comprehensive view the military family experiences, not just during the deployment, but also after it ends. Upon returning he struggles with the eroding of the values he once cherished and returning to a life that seemed foreign and distant to what it once was. It is one Soldier’s journey, but not his alone, and with the ending and through all the pain and tears, there is a new beginning.

I am hoping for a revised edition with more of that Sergeant Hicks guy, he sounds pretty awesome. Any one with a family member in the Guard or Reserves should read this book. Oh yeah and there is a surprise appearance by Jon Huntsman Jr.

Combat Support "The True Burden of Sacrifice" eBook Terry Cropf Reviews

Walk in the footsteps of a soldier and a family man. His words are truly poetic. This was a book both my husband and I enjoyed!
I would wholeheartedly recommend this book. It is a very well written book most readers, which both civilian and Military Veteran can relate too. It could be a very valuable tool especially for those Veterans, married or single because it deals with extremely and timely important subjects.
The reader looks into an intimate journey of self-reflection into the life of a soldier, husband, and father. I found it to be very straight forward and dealt with real issues that confronted the author.
Reading "Combat Support" allowed this reader to view in detail the author's life struggles (problems that life throws at us from time to time) from childhood, Military life, marriage, the separations and returns from Military deployment. Finally the struggles experienced upon return to family and civilian life. A job well done...
Great book detailing the experiences of a family man deployed away from those he loves.
